On March 16, Sargent & Greenleaf Inc. (S&G) of Nicholasville, Ky., a business unit of Stanley Black & Decker, was honored with the 2009 Kentucky Governor's Safety and Health Award at S&G's corporate offices. All 114 employees were in attendance when the annual award was presented by Kentucky Labor Secretary J.R. Gray.
The Kentucky Governor's Safety and Health Award gives special recognition to Kentucky companies that have outstanding safety and health performance records and that regularly encourage the development of programs designed to reduce, and even eliminate, occupational injuries and illnesses.
S&G achieved the minimum required number of hours worked without experiencing a lost-time injury or illness at their establishment to be eligible for the award. They met the criteria by obtaining a zero-time loss hour record for 250,000 hours worked where they did not have any Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recorded lost-time incidents in the calendar year of 2009.
"This award is a direct result of our employees' dedication and commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment each and every single day," stated Stephanie Potts, environmental health and safety (EHS) coordinator, S&G. "We look forward to receiving this award annually and maintaining our zero-time loss safety record."
