Alarm Technicians: Can You Guess the Tools?

SSI columnist Bob Dolph puts alarm technicians to the test in the video below.

What is the next most precious thing to a technician after their mother? Their tools. After all, finding the perfect tool can make a technician more productive, efficient, safer, profitable, professional, valuable and overall a much happier person. Isn’t that what life is all about?

Since 2007 one of the popular sections of my Tech Talk column has been “Tool Tips.” Each month a special tool that is relevant to that month’s technical theme is selected which can make any technician’s day a happy one.

Tools can come in many flavors. Often they are physical items, but at times they could also be a valuable service or a skills-enhancing educational resource.

Looking back over the years I have realized these tool tips have become a pretty comprehensive collection. So I will now be presenting select past tool tips online and in an exciting quick viewing video format (seen above).

While the basic application of many great tools are timeless, the specific tool itself may change or be replaced over time. After all, newer technologies make for new and more exciting tool variations.  Because of this evolution you will notice that I have updated a few tools. They will fit the same tool application profile, only newer, and a more commonly available version. You will see commentary on these subtle upgrades in the presentation. Also, don’t forget to check the valuable Tool Tips resources listing below the video posting.

Now, sit back and enjoy a brief review of some of Tech Talk’s Tool Tips and see if you can guess these interesting and often unique tools. Let me know what you think and if you would like to see more of these presentations in the near future.

Do you have a favorite tool you would like to share with the Tech Talk readership?  Send your suggestions to me at [email protected].
