Association Works with Tucson P.D. on Policy Change

Tucson Police says it will first require other means of verification for burglar alarms before dispatching police as of July 1.

The Tucson Police Department says it will no longer respond to burglar alarms as of July 1, the Arizona Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (ABFAA) says. There must first be verification that criminal activity has actually taken place at a location before dispatching officers.

Police officials say the verification can be through audio, visual or electronic means, or a person such as a security guard.

Susan Brenton, executive director of the Arizona Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (ABFAA) says the association is in discussions with city officials regarding its policy change. Members are being urged to alert their customers through announcement letters provided by the association to have them contact their city council members.
