Burtel Security & Fire Systems Acquires in Washington D.C. Metro Area

Burtel purchased a mix of commercial and residential accounts from Solid State Security of Gaithersburg, Md.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Burtel Security & Fire Systems, one of the largest locally-owned security companies in the metropolitan Washington D.C. and Baltimore areas, recently acquired Solid State Systems. Terms of the all-cash deal were not disclosed.

Solid State Security, located in Gaithersburg, Md., was established in 1937. In the deal completed Sept. 29, Burtel picked up 70 accounts (80% commercial/20% residential) and about $2,700 in recurring monthly revenue (RMR). Solid State Security employees and the previous owner have stayed onboard with Burtel, which also continues to maintain the newly acquired business’s office in Gaithersburg.

Burtel, established about 45 years ago, credits innovative security solutions and customer loyalty to its success and longevity, with many customers dating back more than 30 years.

“Over the years, many of our customers have moved to new homes, gotten married, had children, sent those children away to college – and have kept our services through it all. The fact that our customers have chosen to use our services for decades speaks to the trust, reliability and security we offer,” says Burtel Owner David Jablonski. “We genuinely count it as a privilege to have continued protecting the lives and property of our neighbors and community for so many years.”

Burtel’s wide-ranging customer base includes residential, small business to large commercial, and government clientele. The company operates a residential division called American Home Security.

When asked what he sees as the next phase in security, Jablonski shares, “Ultimately, the landscape of security is changing. New advancements in home automation and the capability to remotely see, secure and control your home and business are key. A truly robust and highly sophisticated – yet affordable – security system that fits your needs seamlessly is the new must-have.”
