Can a Dome Camera Be Securely Mounted to an Open Truss Beam in Less Than 5 Minutes?

It sure can, according to Canada-based Novattach, a supplier of tool-free mounting brackets. Check out the demo video shot on the show floor at ISC West 2015.

Installing security contractors that do work in big box stores and other project sites that call for hanging video surveillance cameras from open truss beams might appreciate a mounting bracket system I came across at ISC West.

Burlington, Ontario, Canada-based- Novattach has devised a solution specially geared for those high ceiling scenarios that call for dropping cameras down several feet or more. The company’s tool-free mount system uses a J-clamp bracket with a cast alloy head unit that makes mounting to open truss beams possible in less than five minutes. Or so goes the marketing spiel. The head units and adaptors are compatible with 1.25-inch EMT conduit or 1.5-inch OD aluminum pipe. You can view a demo below that I shot from the company’s booth on the show floor, featuring staffer Tony Scott, and judge for yourself. (Note: the audio isn’t great so best to pump up the volume.)

Delving a little deeper into the details, to mount a dome camera with a pendant cap Novattach uses a universal mounting adaptor (UMA) to attach to any female threaded pendant cap kit. For male threaded pendant caps, the company supplies an additional adaptor. And for a dome camera with no pendant cap? A pendant mount adaptor (PMA) comes with a locking nut to attach to the bottom of a truss bracket, then the dome camera is attached to the PMA using the universal slot system and fastening hardware. Box camera adaptors are available as well.

Aside from open truss beams, Scott said Novattach mounts can be used for drywall, architectural cladding, data racks, channel strut, wood and concrete ceilings. The products are available via distribution at ADI, Anixter and Graybar branch locations.
