Caught on CCTV: Deputy Attacks K-9 Partner
A security camera captured a deputy attacking a public safety dog.
Black Bear Casino security cameras captured Brett Barry, an 18-year veteran of the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office, allegedly abusing his K-9 partner.
CARLTON, Minn. – A Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office deputy and K-9 handler has been charged with animal cruelty after a security camera captured him viciously attacking his K-9 partner.
The deputy, 48-year-old Brett Berry, an 18-year veteran of the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, was staying at the Black Bear Casino to provide training and certification for K-9 officers, Photography Is Not a Crime reports.

The incident occurred on June 15 around 3 a.m. after security staff at the casino asked Berry to leave. Security watched as the deputy went back to his room to collect his belongings, as well as his K-9 partner.
Security footage shows Berry getting upset with the dog in the casino’s parking lot. The video shows Berry picking up the animal by its collar and throwing the public safety dog on the ground.
Footage shows the dog fleeing from Berry and running back to the casino, where it became stuck between the sliding doors. Berry eventually caught up with the dog, and video shows him hitting the animal with his fists.
The K-9 was uninjured, and is now in the care of others, Northland News Center reports.
Berry was not permitted back into the K-9 trials and has been placed on administrative leave.
