Caught on CCTV: Girls Jump Out Car As Auto Thief Drives Away

Video surveillance footage shows a 10-year-old girl and her two-year-old sister jumping out of their family’s car after a man climbed inside and drives off with the vehicle.

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Redlands Police Department has released surveillance video that shows two girls escaping from a moving vehicle as an auto thief climbed into the car and made his getaway.

A 10-year-old girl and her two-year-old sister were left inside their family’s 2002 Acura TL at a 7-Eleven gas station on June 21 while their mother went to pay inside the store, NBC Los Angeles reports.

Surveillance footage shows a man getting into the car, which the mother had left the motor running. The mother is then seen running toward the car, and the man starts to drive away. The passenger side door opened as the man attempts his escape, and the two girls tumbled out of the car while still in the parking lot.

The girls suffered minor injuries.

Police have identified the suspect as 24-year-old Cory Ahumada, who they say made a purchase at the convenience store prior to stealing the car with California license plate 4UWT026.

Officer said they released the video in hopes that the public can help find him.
