Colin Powell, ‘Integrator of the Future’ Featured at ASIS 2014

The 60th annual event will offer more than 200 educational sessions and be co-located with the (ISC)² Security Congress.

ATLANTA – More than 20,000 professionals from both the physical and information security disciplines are expected to attend the ASIS Int’l 60th Annual Seminar and Exhibits, held Sept. 29-Oct. 2 here at the Georgia World Congress Center.

For the fifth consecutive year, ASIS’ annual event will be co-located with (ISC)² Security Congress 2014, presented by the largest not-for-profit membership body of certified information security professionals worldwide. Offering both events in the same venue allows for education, networking and career advancement opportunities to all levels of traditional and information security professionals, according to organizers.

“As our members are experiencing an increasing rate of assimilation of a variety of technologies into their functions, our primary objective each year at the Seminar and Exhibits is to deliver high quality content to aid and support the development of knowledge, skills and expertise required to effectively and efficiently protect people, property and information,” says ASIS President Geoff Craighead, CPP.

More than 200 educational sessions will be presented at ASIS 2014. Among particular interest to installing security contractors, the Sept. 29 panel session “The Integrator of the Future” will explore the emergence of a new breed of specialist with the ability to address both small and large-scale projects. Scheduled panelists Fredrik Nilsson (Axis Communications), Jay Hauhn (Tyco Integrated Security) and Gordon Hope (Honeywell) will debate how the integrator of today should function and how they can support the often complex needs of the end user.

Colin Powell ASIS 2014 Keynote

Wednesday, October 1
8:00am-9:00am

As someone who crafted and articulated the U.S. position on the world stage, General Powell will provide his insights on efforts to stabilize a troubled world and the diplomatic and leadership skills needed to transform unstable regions into areas where societies and cultures flourish.

On Oct. 1, Bob Banerjee, senior director of training and development at NICE Systems, will moderate “Five Physical Security Trends to Watch.” A panel of security experts will share their insights into key physical security trends that are shaping the industry. Included: how technology is breaking down barriers to collaboration; how the benefits of security technology can extend from the control room to field personnel; how investments in security are increasingly being leveraged across other business operations; how third-generation CCTV video is moving video from the investigative realm into real-time forensics; and where physical security hype meets reality.

Keynote addresses are a highlight of each Seminar and Exhibits. This year, Jon Huntsman Jr. will be featured on Sept. 30. Huntsman is a former governor of Utah (2005-09) and a candidate for the 2012 Republican Presidential nomination. Having served as U.S. trade ambassador and deputy assistant secretary of commerce for Asia, he has been widely praised for his business acumen, trade negotiations and leadership at home and abroad.

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell will offer his thoughts on Oct. 1, focusing on domestic and world affairs, leadership and his vision for tomorrow. Powell served as Secretary of State from 2001-05 during President George W. Bush’s first term in office. His illustrious resume includes serving as the first African-American chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. A retired four-star general, Powell’s numerous awards include two Presidential Medals of Freedom.

Of course, the epicenter of the annual event is the exhibition floor. ASIS 2014 will highlight more than 650 companies demonstrating cutting-edge innovations, products and services. Attendees can visit securityexpo.asisonline.org and the navigate to the “show planner” tab for a complete list of exhibitors, as well as other pertinent information to game plan a detailed agenda.
