Comcast Adds Home Security Camera, Voice Control to Xfinity Home

The xCam is weather resistant and has a 109° field of view. The voice control is the same used for the X1 TV remote.

Comcast unveiled two new additions to its home security and automation platform Xfinity Home: a high definition, indoor/outdoor camera and voice control.

Xfinity Home is also continuing to integrate its third-party products from August Home, Chamberlain, Lutron and Nest.

The xCam is said to feature a weather resistant seal, 109° field of view, HD video and infrared night vision. It also has a WiFi signal routed through the power source instead of the camera.

“We want to give consumers the best of home automation and security in one, easy-to-use experience,” said Daniel Herscovici, senior vice president and general manager of Xfinity Home. “Our new camera features great connectivity, wide-angle views and powerful night vision, delivering clear, high-quality footage. It also interacts with other IoT devices on our platform, like sensors and lights, so people can personalize and automate their connected home.”

The xCam allows for 24/7 video surveillance and can store up to 10 days’ worth of footage. It can also be set up to only record if motion is detected.

As for the voice control, Xfinity Home customers who have the X1 platform for their TV remotes can use that function to arm and disarm the home security system.
