New Chapter for School Security
As news of All Saints Catholic School’s success story spreads, Wellman, Strausbaugh and Hilden are receiving more and more inquiries from stakeholders interested in making their educational facilities safer, harder targets.
“We’re pleased with the product and what we’ve been able to do,” says Strausbaugh. “We’re very happy with Canton Police, their willingness to work with the school and to have things put into their dispatch center so we can have that immediate conversation. It’s been a very positive experience.”
Hilden says he would like to see ubiquity in such systems and responder relationships: “Being able to monitor all the schools and immediately activate in the dispatch center would be great. The ability for any school to notify us with this kind of system certainly would be something we’d be in favor of. Getting all our schools onboard would be tremendous.”
Wellman says he has received several requests for bid from other campuses: “The more the threats appear on the news, the more the awareness is stimulated by the events, the more need there is to constantly review school security. There’s no finish line here. We always have to keep reviewing what we’ve done and checking it. That’s how I look at security and I think that’s what the schools are doing.”
