CryWolf to Help Atlanta Cut Down on False Alarms

ATLANTA — The police department here has contracted with a third-party vendor to administer a new alarm management program that is being implemented after the city enacted a series of amendments to its existing false alarm ordinance.

The new rules, which took effect Sept. 15, require residents to register their alarms by Feb. 1, 2014. After that, users will face a $150 fine for failing to register their alarm. The city will not charge for the first false alarm, but will fine residents $50 for the second. Levies will increase for each false dispatch thereafter, East Atlanta Patch reports.

Last year the Atlanta Police Department responded to 65,000 alarm system activations of which 95% were false alarms or were cancelled en route. To help manage the alarm calls, city officials have contracted with CryWolf False Alarm Solutions to coordinate the false alarm program.
