CSAA Annual Conference: Oct. 16-21

The Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) annual conference Oct. 16-21 in Kapalua, Maui, held true to the festive setting. The mai tais were flowing at several of the evening functions, which included a luau sponsored by Digital Security Controls (DSC). Jason Knott, publisher of Security Sales, and Bob Harris of Pacific Alarm in Culver City, Calif., were given “good sport” awards for their hula dance renditions.

ADI sponsored a scramble golf tournament at the famous Plantation Course. The winning team once-again included Graham Westphal of Bay Alarm Co. of Walnut Creek, Calif., with a 9-under-par score. For the second year in a row, Sentrol’s tennis tournament was rained out. Besides the fun activities, the association also faced some important issues, such as police and fire relations, systems integration, remote CCTV monitoring and false alarms.

CSAA is also addressing the consolidation trend, which has reduced its core membership in recent years. Isaac Papier, managing engineer for UL, received the association’s prestigious Stanley C. Lott Memorial Award for his work in creating standards for the industry. Ralph Sevinor, president of Wayne Alarm Systems Inc. in Lynn, Mass., was elected the association’s next president. Next year’s event will be held in Monte Carlo, Monaco, to celebrate CSAA’s 50th anniversary.
