ESA Bestows Sara E. Jackson Award to Industry Vet

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Electronic Security Association (ESA) honored industry veteran Sam Fiske with the 2014 Sara E. Jackson Award on Wednesday at the ESA Leadership Summit in Orlando, Fla.

Named for ESA’s president from 1950-51, the Sara E. Jackson Award recognizes an ESA volunteer who has exhibited exceptional leadership skills as a member of an association committee, task force or board.

Fiske started in the security business more than 17 years ago as marketing director at Franklin, N.C.-based Smoky Mountain Systems. He now serves as general manager and COO of the company.

Fiske joined ESA shortly after joining Smoky Mountain Systems, serving on a wide range of task forces and advisory committees and is currently chair of the association’s membership committee.

He also has been active in the North Carolina Electronic Security Association (NCESA), serving as treasurer for the past seven years.

His ability to get things done at all levels is a major reason why ESA President John Knox selected Fiske for the award.

“Leadership is Sam’s strong suit,” Knox says. “He knows how to talk to people. He’s good at providing direction for the membership committee, but he also works behind the scenes. Sam does a great job at holding people accountable, and he always does it with respect. Everything he does is with the association’s best interests in mind.”
