ESX 2015 to Focus on Strengthening Industry Practitioners’ Skillsets

SSI offers an overview of the Electronic Security Expo (ESX), which is scheduled for June 24-26 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

BALTIMORE – The Electronic Security Association (ESA) and Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) will present the 8th Annual Electronic Security Expo (ESX) June 24-26 at the Baltimore Convention Center. Established in 2008, the event will offer a wide assortment of seminars, networking opportunities and an exhibit floor with more than 200 participating manufacturers and service providers.

More than 60 educational sessions will be presented as part of a four-track program, led by executives from leading installing security contractors and manufacturers as well as a host of other subject matter experts. Organizers have retooled this year’s curriculum to focus heavily on best practices and ideas intended to help dealers, integrators and central stations improve their business operations. The track titles are: Run Your Company, Grow Your Business, Rethink the Future and Maximize Your Central Station.

“The purpose of ESX 2015 educational tracks is to communicate significant ideas and information that are not only relevant and essential to electronic security, life safety and monitoring professionals, but also inspire them to take meaningful action and implement change in their business and personal lives,” says ESX Chairman George De Marco.

ESX will officially kick-off with the OpenXchange session (June 24, 8:30 a.m.) where a panel of thought leaders will deliberate about technological trends, operational challenges, the increasingly competitive landscape and other hot topics of interest to attendees. The session will be followed by the Networking & Public Safety Luncheon (11:30 a.m.), which features a jam-packed menu of activities. Featured speaker Anthony W. Batts, Commissioner of the Baltimore Police Department, will explain why partnerships between law enforcement and the security industry will be essential to community policing and problem solving moving forward.

“Commissioner Batts’ experience and foresight make him an excellent resource for members of our industry as we prepare for the future,” says Glen Mowrey, retired deputy police chief of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and National Law Enforcement Liaison for the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC).

Several individuals and companies will be honored during the luncheon. Among them: the Police Dispatch Quality (PDQ) Award, presented jointly by SSI and SIAC, recognizes an installing security contractor that best demonstrates a proactive and cooperative effort to reduce unnecessary alarm dispatches; the inaugural presentation of the CSAA Public Sector Award; SIAC’s William N. Moody Award to honor a volunteer who has demonstrated exemplary leadership and dedication to stem false dispatches; and ESA will announce the winner of its Youth Scholarship Program.

More industry top honors will be bestowed June 25 during the Industry Excellence Awards Breakfast (8 a.m.). CSAA and SSI will present the CSAA Five Diamond Marketing Marvel Award, an annual program honoring a central station that uses its CSAA Five Diamond status in creative ways to gain a competitive edge in the marketplace. The schedule includes the CSAA Excellence Awards to recognize monitoring center personnel who make significant contributions to the betterment of the industry, and the Morris F. Weinstock Person of the Year Award recognizes outstanding achievement and ongoing efforts by an individual on behalf of ESA.

There are two speakers of note on the event’s agenda. The opening keynote luncheon (June 25, 11:30 a.m.) will feature Major General James (Greg) Champion, a retired Special Forces officer with more than 20 years of experience leading the Green Berets. He will share insights on leadership and talk about his command of the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force in Afghanistan in 2002 and 2003. For the closing keynote luncheon (June 26, noon), Alan Beaulieu – principal of ITR Economics and co-author of “Prosperity in the Age of Decline” – will examine long- and short-term economic forecasts and how they will impact the electronic security industry.

Among other event goings-on, SSI Editor-in-Chief and Associate Publisher Scott Goldfine will be on hand to congratulate winners of the magazine’s inaugural Supplier Stellar Service Awards, which honor manufacturers, distributors and wholesale central stations for outstanding customer support and service across a broad range of support/service areas. And the ESX Club Crawl returns June 24 for evening time revelry. Socializers are invited to tour through Power Plant Live, Baltimore’s upscale dining and entertainment destination located one block from the downtown Inner Harbor.
