FLIR Unveils 12 Low-Cost Thermal Cameras

FLIR Systems released three low-cost thermal camera lines, with MSRPs starting at $499, at ISC West 2014

By ·

Thermal camera specialist FLIR Systems hosted a press dinner event to display and highlight new additions to its security industry portfolio during last week’s ISC West trade show.

Of particular note, the company unveiled three low-cost lines with MSRPs starting at $499. The release consists of 12 new models ranging from the BT-Series mini-bullets with 50° and 25° fields of view, to the DT-Series pan/tilt/zoom dome cameras with sensor resolutions up to VGA and fields of view as narrow as 9°.

Once pigeon-holed for only the priciest security projects, FLIR is making a determined effort to make thermal cameras a viable option for cost-conscious end users such as small businesses and even residential installations.

The company also passed along an announcement for its forthcoming FLIR Cloud, an “easy-to-use” service platform that aims to provide instant remote access to FLIR’s security wares via smartphones and other Web-enabled mobile devices. Service applications will include cloud video activity synopses and mobile alerts, scheduled backups to offsite cloud servers, smart video analytics, and remote playback of video stored in the cloud, according the company.

There is a recurring revenue piece here for installing security contractors who upgrade customers to premium FLIR Cloud services. Be on the lookout come July for the DNR400 Series NVR, which is slated to be the first product of many offerings to support the new platform.
