Florida Police Warn Residents of Security Alarm Scam
A woman claiming to be a Vivint employee has approached homeowners, telling them she was performing security alarm surveys on behalf of the Vero Beach Police Department.
VERO BEACH, Fla. – The Vero Beach Police Department (VBPD) are warning residents about a woman claiming to be a representative from Vivint.
Witnesses told police that the woman identified at a Vivint Security Co. employee, and claimed she was performing a security alarm survey on behalf of the police department, TC Palm reports.

Officials said the woman told the homeowners that they might be eligible for an upgrade to their alarm systems, which would be paid for by the City of Vero Beach. She also asked specific information about home alarms, including whether they were hardwired or linked to a cellphone.
The woman, who carried a Vivint badge, never displayed a City of Vero Beach solicitation permit. She was seen on foot in the area with no vehicles nearby.
The VBPD maintains that it does not send civilians to perform surveys on its behalf. Additionally, officials said claims that the city will pay for any alarm upgrade is also false.
