Home Security Salesman Indicted After Fatal Shooting of Homeowner

Richard Luis Amezquita said he acted in self defense when the homeowner, Kerry O’Toole, kicked, choked and threw rocks at him.

SAN ANTONIO — A home security salesman was indicted last week after police say he fatally shot a homeowner back in November.

Police say an argument occurred between the suspect, Richard Luis Amezquita, and the homeowner, Kerry O’Toole, that ended with Amezquita going back to his car to get his gun and firing several shots at O’Toole, one of which fatally struck O’Toole, 53, in the chest.

KSAT reports Amezquita, 35, told police that O’Toole, who had a “no soliciting” sign on his front door, answered the door agitated and kicked and choked him. Amezquita also told police O’Toole was throwing rocks at him, which prompted him to go back and get his gun.

After shooting O’Toole, Amezquita left the scene and called 911. He told police he acted in self defense.

KSAT also reports two ex-brothers-in-law of Amezquita were shocked by the allegations, one saying he has “nothing but good and kind words to say about the guy.”

Amezquita is awaiting trial.
