BALTIMORE — Hughes Associates, a fire protection engineering consultant, has acquired Kodiak Fire & Safety Consulting for an undisclosed amount.
The acquisition will help boost Hughes Associates capabilities in litigation support and fire investigation. Kodiak of Fort Wayne, Ind., provides forensic analysis and litigation support for codes and standards established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration and other governing bodies.
Kodiak’s strong reputation appealed to Hughes Associates, as the company’s founder and president Dan Churchwood has a 41-year history conducting complex fire investigations, safety inspections and training. Additionally, he chaired the NFPA 921 committee, overseeing changes in the Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations.
“Kodiak is a highly respected and talented group of engineers and investigators,” says Daniel Gottuck, director of litigation support, Hughes Associates. “We are looking forward to expanding our forensic services offering. Kodiak and Hughes have very complementary capabilities that will allow us to better serve our collective clients.”
Founded in 1980, Hughes Associates offers fire protection engineering, environmental and security consulting services. Acquired by Huron Capital Partners in May 2011, Hughes Associates serves a blue-chip base of government and commercial clients providing fire code compliance, design and engineering and other related services.
