Inside Look at PSA-TEC 2016
Education, enlightenment and entertainment were the order of the days during another fine TEC event.
WESTMINSTER, Colo.—PSA Security Network held another successful TEC event May 9-12, drawing approximately 800 systems integrators, vendors, trade media and other industry professionals for top-level technical and business training, PSA member meetings, networking, special presentations, awards, exhibition and social gatherings. The event, which has been held for several decades, is widely considered the best of its kind and one of the most valuable conferences within the entire electronic security industry.
Highlights of this year’s edition included focusing on changing business models and recurring revenue generation, contending with both the threat and opportunity presented by cybersecurity, and forward-thinking technology analysis that included unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Regarding the latter, representatives from Sharp held a press conference to announce the new Robolliance, of which Security Sales & Integration is the exclusive media expert sponsor.
Other highlights of the affair included the State of the Industry and State of the Integrator panel discussions, a session on the current state of the acquisition market, PSA annual vendor awards presentation, vendor expo, numerous networking activities and the longstanding PSA Jam Session in which industry pros trade their screwdrivers for guitars. This year was especially enjoyable because a professional musician was brought in by PSA President Bill Bozeman, New Orleans bluesman Johnny Sansone who wailed out in front of solid backing by familiar Jam Session industry regulars.

Like ISC West just a month prior, the atmosphere and tenor of PSA TEC was decidedly upbeat and rife with eagerness to elevate security businesses to the next level. The mix of program, attendees and locale cannot be beat, however, due to the number of participants the organization will likely have to move the event to a new venue by 2018. But organizers say it will remain in the general area, but perhaps moving back to Denver proper as it was some 15 years ago. At that time, the move from downtown Denver was due to having outgrown that venue, but many appealing new options have now become available in the growing metro area.
