Intruder Shot After Woman Spots Him on Security App Camera Feed
The woman watched on her phone as the suspect rummaged through the drawers in her bedroom, police said.
TAMPA, Fla. – A burglary suspect who was shot after breaking into a residence here is in serious condition at a local hospital.
Tampa Police Department spokesperson Steve Hegarty told NBC affiliate WFLA-TV the suspect, identified as Michael N. Stewart, 23, broke into a home around 10 a.m. Tuesday.
The homeowner was not present at the time of the incident, but did receive an alert on her phone from a security system. She was then able to view a security camera feed on the mobile device and watched the suspect in her bedroom. He allegedly had socks on his hands, according to police.
“Something that we’re seeing is that people have some pretty good surveillance video. In this case, it alerted her with somebody in her house, when she wasn’t even there,” Hegarty said.

The woman called her father to go to her home. The father spotted Stewart, who was leaving the residence, police said. The father told detectives he saw an unknown object in the suspect’s hand. He told police he was in fear and fired one shot, hitting the suspect in the upper torso.
The suspect faces charges in connection with the burglarly. The victim’s father is cooperating. He has not been charged.
