LEVA Conference to Train Police Officers on Forensic Video

The Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Video Association (LEVA) will host the 2012 LEVA Annual Training Conference, which will teach police departments on tight budgets the basics on forensic video.

SAN DIEGO — The Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Video Association (LEVA) will host the 2012 LEVA Annual Training Conference, which will teach police departments on tight budgets the basics on forensic video.

Scheduled for Oct. 22-26 at the Bahia Resort Hotel in San Diego, the five-day event will focus on digital multimedia evidence (DME). Now in its 23rd year, the conference will feature hands-on workshops and interactive educational sessions centered on DME laboratory best practices, DME recovery for first responders and more.

For Officer Roy Dunkelbarger of the Mesa (Ariz.) Police Department, Video Services Unit, past LEVA conferences have been helpful for investigators in his department and he expects this year’s event to be just as beneficial.

“Without training in video evidence, most of our investigators either do not know how to properly handle the video evidence or do not use it to its fullest potential,” he says. “Because of this, it has been a goal for our department to obtain a certification in forensic video analysis, so we will have someone with the knowledge to not only handle video evidence correctly but also be able to testify in court about it.”
