N.C. County Favors Security Plan Incorporating Customized Security Systems for All Buildings

Fair Ridge Engagement proposes conducting a study on every building in order to tailor unique security systems for each.

MOORE COUNTY, N.C. — Security various buildings in a county can incorporate a number of different security systems based on the unique challenges each building faces.

Moore County is finding that out as it has received three proposals from security companies on how to properly defend each building, according to a report by the Southern Pines Pilot.

The proposal Commissioner Randy Saunders favors comes from Fair Ridge Engagement, which suggested conducting a study on each building to identify its unique security challenges and then to arm it with the proper system based off of those unique qualities. Once the study is concluded, cost can be determined.

Moore County Manager Wayne Vest said part of the challenge is the number of buildings in the county, most notably the Old Courthouse.

“We need to determine the threat level for each and match that to an appropriate security level,” Vest said. “We want to make sure we cover all possible situations.”

A second proposal comes from SimplexGrinnell, which called for card readers on doors for employee access, as well as security cameras and monitoring systems to grant employees access to restricted areas.

Another proposal, this one from Securitas, suggested armed or unarmed guards at the entrances of the buildings, according to the report.
