New Group Brings Together Industry’s Women and Those Who Support Them

DULUTH, Ga. — A new networking group will aim at recruiting and retaining top women talent in the electronic security industry. The organizers behind Women in Security Electronics (WISE) say the nonprofit group will assist women by providing professional development, mentoring, networking and greater exposure within the industry.

WISE will officially be launched at ISC West in Las Vegas during an April 5 networking event. Holly Lagsdin, who is vice president of sales for the international fiber systems division of GE Infrastructure, Security, was one of the prime forces behind the group’s formation. Lagsdin says people shouldn’t expect WISE to be an advocacy organization. Rather, she says WISE will be a place for women in the industry to network and improve their talents.

“This isn’t being positioned as a ‘woe is me, men are keeping us down.’ We have succeeded,” Lagsdin says. “We all believe women have equal opportunity in this industry. The closest thing to an advocacy position is that we will showcase women who are doing great things.”

Despite the name, WISE’s membership will be open to both men and women in the electronic security industry, Lagsdin says. “We’re making sure we’re as inclusive as possible,” she says. “This can be a uniting force in the industry.”
