New Jersey Alarm Business Marks 75th Year in Business

UNION, N.J.

An electronic security provider is celebrating its 75th
year in business and plans to grow with a marketing and
sales blitz in the coming months. Supreme Security Systems,
founded in 1929 as a night watchman company, touts itself
as the largest independent electronic security provider in
New Jersey.

Coinciding with its 75-year milestone, Supreme Security is
starting a large push for new customers. David Bitton, COO
of Supreme Security Systems, says word of mouth has been
enough in the past to drive business to the company. “We
grew based on our principles. People knew who we were and
how to get us,” Bitton told SSI. “Times have changed
and we can’t rely on our referral base any longer.”

Supreme Security Systems provides more than 10,000
commercial, industrial and residential customers with
burglar and fire alarm installation and service as well as
CCTV, access control and monitoring and is a member of
several industry associations.

Sydney Bitton founded the company as the Supreme Protective
Co. Ten years after its founding, the company changed its
name to Supreme Burglar Alarm Co. and began alarm system
installation. The company opened a UL-listed monitoring
station in 1972 and changed its name to Supreme Security
Systems.

Supreme is in its third generation of family ownership.
Robert Bitton became president of the company in 1964 after
his father’s passing and was the first-ever recipient of
the Central Station Alarm Association’s (CSAA) Stanley C.
Lott Award in 1991. David Bitton, Robert’s son, says being
a family-run business has its advantages.

“I have a personal relationship with the company,” the
younger Bitton says. “It is my family.”

Bitton says 60 percent of the company’s revenue comes from
commercial accounts, though residential makes up a great
deal of Supreme’s revenue.

Supreme was one of the earliest companies to install
residential systems in 1964. However, Bitton says the level
of service Supreme provides – including a 24-hour guarantee
for service calls – is attracting more commercial clients
like T-Mobile, K-Mart, Prudential and Cablevision.
