Nortek Security & Control Unveils Hardwired Video Doorbell for Dealers

CEDIA 2016: The video doorbell with two-way audio features battery-free installation and a hermetically-sealed design to protect against the elements.

DALLAS – Nortek Security & Control announces the new GoControl Smart Doorbell Camera available exclusively to security dealers and smart-home installers looking to provide their customers with the ability to see and talk to visitors at their doors via smartphones.

The new device is Wi-Fi enabled with two-way audio to allow homeowners to see who is at the door, and converse with the caller as well. Equipped with a 720p HD camera and a 180-degree wide-angle lens, the doorbell camera captures video even when mounted off to the side of the door. To provide homeowners with a superior audio experience, the connected video doorbell decouples audio/video information and uses low latency SIP technology for near real-time two-way audio performance, according to the company.

The GoControl doorbell camera is IP65 weather rated with hermetically-sealed wire connections to eliminate service calls due to dust, rain, sleet and snow. The hard-wired installation coupled with the IP65 rating offers superior performance over other battery-powered units resulting in longer Wi-Fi range and advanced night-time illumination, according to the company.

As a retrofit solution designed to replace existing or outdated doorbell systems, the GoControl doorbell camera features two-wire installation that draws power from the same transformer as the previous doorbell. Also, the device is said to fit cleanly over an old doorbell to cover pre-existing holes or discoloration footprints.

Designed to match existing décor and hardware, the unit’s faceplate can be swapped out by installers. It comes in a variety of color finishes including satin nickel, bronze, brass, charcoal or white. For dealers looking to add a personal touch to their installation, they have the option of swapping out the GoControl logo for their own when ordering replaceable faceplates. The connected doorbell camera can in most cases be directly integrated with the existing door chime. For installations that may require a new door chime, hardwired chime or Wi-Fi-powered outlet chime replacements are available to installers.

Once installed, homeowners can receive notifications from the device on iOS or Android smartphones or tablets when someone rings the bell. Homeowners can also access their doorbell camera video feed on demand from their app and in doing so, record video directly to their phone or take a snapshot. Six IR LEDS provide night vision for high-quality video up to 15 feet away, even in low-light applications, according to the company. The companion “MyDoorbell” app can support up to two doorbells and up to four user accounts.

The GoControl doorbell camera will be on display at CEDIA 2016 in Dallas in the Z-Wave Pavilion (booth 1910).
