NYPD Ramping Up Security for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade; No Specific Threat to Event

Thousands of officers and 1,300 counterterrorism officers will patrol the parade route.

NEW YORK CITY — With people ready to spill into New York City for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, the New York Police Department isn’t taking any chances when it comes to the ongoing terror threat from the Islamic State.

The NYPD said there’s no specific threat against the event, but it is still ramping up security for the mass gathering of people, as Fox News reported.

Thousands of officers, including 1,300 counterterrorism officers, will patrol the parade route, according to Police Commissioner William Bratton.

On Sunday, the NYPD simulated a subway terror attack in response to the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, releasing a video featuring a suicide bomber prepared to attack Times Square.

“In New York City, we are, at this time, very well-prepared and continually improving that preparedness,” Bratton said.

A spokesman for the NYPD told Foxs News, “As the Thanksgiving holiday weekend approaches, the Port Authority Police Department remains on heightened alert at all of the agency’s bridge, tunnel, rail, World Trade Center and other facilities, following the recent tragic terrorism incidents in Paris and elsewhere.”
