Pa. City to Beef Up Security With 10 Wireless Cameras

With the goal to deter crime in certain areas, as well as capture video of criminal activity, the Dauphin County Crimes Task Force will install 10 wireless cameras throughout this city.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — With the goal to deter crime in certain areas, as well as capture video of criminal activity, the Dauphin County Crimes Task Force will install 10 wireless cameras throughout this city.

The task force has collaborated with Johnson Controls to install the pan/tilt/zoom (p/t/z) cameras, which will be placed on poles around the city, ABC27.com reports. The integrator will begin the $373,000 project in July. Officials also signed an $80,000 contract for maintenance and service.

Officials decided to install the cameras in response to the reduced manpower in law enforcement. Up to three data technicians will monitor the system for 17 hours per day. The task force reports that the entire city will be under surveillance.

In the near future, city officials hope to integrate the new surveillance system with existing security at local businesses. Authorities maintain that the new system will be used to protect residents and not invade privacy.
