JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Pinnacle Security has agreed to pay $76,000 in a settlement with the Missouri Attorney General’s Office over unethical door-to-door sales practices, reports LegalNewsline.com.
Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster filed a lawsuit against the company in May 2011, claiming that Pinnacle’s door-to-door sales team used scare tactics to sign up new clients.
Under terms of the settlement, Pinnacle will pay $46,000 to customers, who were deceived about the firm’s relationship with other security companies, the cost of its services or for its cancellation policy. Missouri Merchandising Practices Revolving Fund will receive $12,500, plus Pinnacle will pay $17,500 in civil penalties to the state.
Pinnacle will also pay refunds to customers who file a new complaint within the next four months. Those consumers must provide documentation showing that they were persuaded to enter a contract with the company through deceptive practices.
Last month, Pinnacle settled a similar claim with the Florida Attorney General’s Office after customers complained they were misled by company representatives.
