Red Hawk Fire & Security Reduces Fleet Truck Accidents by 80%

The systems integrator received special recognition from an awards program for its use of technology in achieving fleet management excellence.

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Systems integrator Red Hawk Fire & Security was recently honored by Supply & Demand Chain Executive 100 for implementing a fleet management system credited with a dramatic drop in accidents and a marked improvement in seatbelt use among its drivers.

Each year, Red Hawk Fire & Security installation and service technicians drive tens of thousands of miles as they travel to and from customer locations in the banking and financial services, health care, education, retail and manufacturing industries.  In addition to comprehensive safety awareness programs that include regular seminars by local law enforcement officers, the integrator is also using technology to boost its safety record.

The company equipped half of its approximately 800 vehicles with the Geotab GO7 telematics device and MyGeotab fleet management software, which detects all of the vehicle data communications from the engine, drivetrain, instrument cluster and other relevant subsystems. The implementation has resulted in a reduction of accidents by 80% and dramatically increased seatbelt use in the company’s Northeast operating region. This was achieved utilizing detailed driver behavior data collected by the fleet tracking technology, as well as fleet managers executing corrective action on an as-needed basis.

“Red Hawk is working very hard to grow our company and ramp up productivity,” says Red Hawk COO Mike McWilliams. “While we accelerate our business growth and development, we continue to be mindful of the safety and security of our people in the field just as we work to provide the life safety and security services to our customers.”

Beyond improving driver safety and productivity, Red Hawk was also able to reduce fuel consumption by getting a clear picture of the time vehicles spent idling and, as a result, applied best practices to avoid unnecessary fuel costs.

“Investing in a telematics solution, having a comprehensive driver awareness and safety training program and getting our drivers to buckle up, combine to help us better serve our customers by being more efficient. Most importantly, these efforts are also helping preserve our most precious resource – our people – by helping keep them safe on the road,” McWilliams says.
