On Aug. 29, the Security Industry Association (SIA) staff outdid themselves once again with their Gala Awards Dinner 2000. The theme of the event, “SIA Celebrates New York and the Silver Screen,” highlighted movies that were filmed in the Big Apple, such as “All That Jazz” and “Funny Girl.” The association also welcomed a special guest, actress Sylvia Miles. The veteran performer has appeared in hit movies, such as “Wall Street” and “Midnight Cowboy.”
The highlight of the evening came during the awards presentation. The George R. Lippert Memorial Award went to Robert C. Cook. The industry veteran served on the SIA board of directors as a vice president and director for four years. Unlike previous award winners, Cook took a more unique approach by accepting the award while donning a wizard’s hat.
New York City Police Chief Joseph P. Dunne was the proud recipient of the SIA Gold Circle Award. Dunne was recognized for his work with the association, as well as his commitment to the Private Sector Liaison Committee.
Rounding out the evening was a show-stopping Broadway musical revue. Performers Tim Shew and Brian and Diane Sutherland charmed the audience with tunes from hit musicals, including “Guys and Dolls” and “Annie.”
