Study Finds 53% of Home Alarm Owners Don’t Use System

A new study by an insurance group brings new meaning to the assertion that an alarm system is only as good as those who use it — or in this case, use it at all.

LOS ANGELES — A new study by an insurance group brings new meaning to the assertion that an alarm system is only as good as those who use it — or in this case, use it at all.

A survey of homeowners by Farmers Insurance Group found that 53 percent of home alarm owners never use their system.

The survey also found that 28 percent of homeowners rarely or never keep the outside of their home well lit at night, let alone use outdoor sensors to activate lighting.
