Texas Neighborhood Seeks to Boost Security to Deter Burglaries

Residents in a South Lubbock neighborhood are considering installing home security systems, which include video surveillance cameras, after a string of burglaries hit the area.

LUBBOCK, Texas – A string of burglaries in the area has prompted residents in one South Lubbock neighborhood to arm their homes with security systems.

For the past few weeks, thieves have been breaking into vehicles and homes in the neighborhood, EverythingLubbock.com reports.

One resident, Dylan Heimbruch, who recently moved into his home a month ago, says he has already experienced two burglaries at his residence.

During one of the incidents, Heimbruch’s Protection 1 security system, which has silence sensors and video surveillance cameras, alerted the homeowner that someone was lurking outside his home. The alert allowed Heimbruch to see who the intruder was and call police.

Kat Anderson, a representative with South Plains Auto Task Force, explained that the number of auto burglaries and theft increase during the summer season. Most thieves are searching for laptops, cell phones and loose change.

Anderson urged homeowners to install security systems and form a neighborhood watch program to help decrease some of the crime.

Residents are also advised to keep their garage closed, lock their doors, and keep their house well-lit at night.
