Travelers During Fourth of July Weekend Should Expect Longer Security Process at Airports
Fliers are to expect to allot an additional 30 to 45 minutes to account for the added security.
Approximately 3.3 million Americans are expected to fly between June 30 and July 4.
Travelers during this Fourth of July weekend can expect delays as a result of a greater emphasis on security in light of the attacks on Istanbul’s primary airport.
“If you are in a ‘marquee’ airport, you should absolutely allow significantly more time, on the order of 30 to 45 minutes,” Bruce McIndoe, CEO of travel risk advisory company iJet International, told Reuters.
Some potential security measures used this weekend include more random passenger screenings and increased sensitivity used in magnetometer devices. At U.S. airports, McIndoe said it’s likely there will be an increased focus on video surveillance and armed personnel in public spaces prior to security screening.

For obvious reasons, some airports declined to discuss their security measures for the weekend, however some major airports maintained that security is their top priority, the report said.
AAA expects 43 million Americans to travel between June 30 and July 4, with roughly 3.3 million expected to fly. The vast majority are expected to drive.
