Video Insight Fits Right in Among Panasonic’s Panoply of Surveillance Products

Recent VMS acquisition exhibits within its new parent company’s booth for the first time amid video surveillance showstoppers.

LAS VEGAS — Panasonic was one of the most eagerly anticipated exhibitors at ISC West due to its recent headline-stealing acquisition of video management software (VMS) specialist Video Insight. However, that was scarcely the only thing the longtime video surveillance imaging pacesetter had up its proverbial sleeve for the big show.

Highlights included: True 4K cameras with an outdoor vandal dome (WV-SFV781L) and outdoor vandal fixed (WV-SPV781L); ULTRA 360 camera with advanced analytics; 5 Series fixed dome cameras delivering advanced features such as 133dB enhanced super dynamic range and 0.07 lux high-sensitivity for color images; 3 Series indoor and outdoor pan/tilt/zoom cameras delivering HD performance at a midlevel price point; WV-SF448 privacy-ready camera, a full HD 1080p network camera addition to Panasonic’s i-PRO SmartHD 360° network cameras line; and WV-ASF900 FacePro facial search and recognition system.

Security Sales & Integration toured the Panasonic booth with National Category Manager, Security & Evidence Management Solutions Charlie Hare. He explained how the company’s True 4K is noteworthy due to its glass-to-glass design with Panasonic’s own lenses, wide angle and zoom capabilities, and built-in LEDs. Hare said the 4K models would eventually replace outdoor cameras in many applications. In showing the ULTRA 360, he said its built-in analytics could be upgraded to include heat mapping, people counting and moved object functions.

As far as Video Insight‘s role within Panasonic, Hare said its VMS brings the company’s vast line of surveillance products the glue to unify it all and was the only missing piece to Panasonic’s security puzzle. He said it will be mostly business as usual for Video Insight in that its multitude of integration relationships with access control and camera manufacturers would continue as before. Hare said the VMS provider will operate independently under its new parent company’s umbrella. Some key differentiators he pointed out was Video Insight’s relatively low licensing fees and now in particular the absence of those fees when used with Panasonic cameras.
