Vivint CEO Todd Pedersen Crashes Car in Off-Road Race; Child Dies

Pedersen lost control of his car during a turn of the SCORE Baja 500, hitting three spectators.

UTAH COUNTY, Utah — Vivint CEO Todd Pedersen was involved in a crash during an off-road race on Saturday that resulted in the death of an 8-year-old boy. Pedersen’s car hit three spectators, including the young boy and his mother, who was sent to the hospital.

Pedersen, a 2016 inductee into the SSI Industry Hall of Fame, was competing in the SCORE Baja 500. The crash occurred in the first half mile of the race.

“Racer Todd Pedersen … while negotiating a turn entering the Ensenada wash and attempting to avoid some fans, eventually hit three spectators,” SCORE released in a statement. “An 8-year-old boy was fatally injured in the accident, according to police on the scene. He was transported to an Ensenada hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

The statement later stated that the boy’s mother is in stable condition at an Ensenada hospital with head and leg injuries.

Pedersen released the following statement: “I’m devastated by the tragic accident that happened this weekend. My heart goes out to the family at this time.”
