West Rides Off as Head of SBT’s Security Operations

A contact of mine within Siemens Building Technologies (SBT) has informed me that George West, vice president and head of SBT’s Security Solutions Business Unit, has stepped down. His last day with the giant systems integrator was Nov. 24. West apparently accepted a position with a much smaller firm outside of the security industry.

My source assured me that this change has nothing to do with SBT’s recent strategic reshuffling maneuvers, and that despite some rumors to the contrary the company remains fully committed to the security space, or as he put it, “In it to win it.” In fact, he said SBT’s recent moves have been quite successful and that the company had a great year in 2008.

West, who spent 14 years with SBT, succeeded Alan Calegari in December 2005. Calegari left SBT in October of that year after serving in the position for just a year, and later became president of Dedicated Micros until this past summer. SBT is presently looking for a permanent replacement for West, with Bernhard Veitl assuming the role on an interim basis.

Although an official announcement was pending at the time of this writing, the following press release was issued on Dec. 2 detailing another key appointment who will report to Veitl. Here is that release …
