White House Names Digatron CEO to Homeland Security Panel

DENVER

Tony Ibarra, CEO and founder of Digatron Inc., has been appointed by the White House to serve on a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) panel. Ibarra is one of 19 leaders from law enforcement, industry and academia to be named to the Homeland Security Science and Technology Advisory Committee (HSSTAC) and is the only representative from the electronic security industry.

The panel will advise the research and development arm of the DHS and the agency’s Under Secretary for Science and Technology, Charles McQueary, and held its first meeting in late February. The sensitive subject matter prevents Ibarra from saying too much about what the committee has been discussing. “I can tell you that our government has some of the best minds in the world putting together procedures to ensure our country is prepared for any event,” says Ibarra, who adds the alarm industry deserves its place on the panel. “We provide the backbone of securing our facilities – federal, state and local.”

Since Ibarra started Digatron more than 20 years ago, the company has developed into one of the leading installers of security systems for federal government buildings in Washington, including installations in the U.S. Capitol, State Department and Internal Revenue Service. “Tony’s been a visionary. Everybody laughed at Tony when he started working with the government,” says Digatron CTO and Vice President of Operations Charles Kirmuss, who used to watch from afar before joining the company last July. “Tony since Day 1 has been one of the first to see the government as a customer on DVR.”

Ibarra sees less the prestige of his appointment and his past work for the government and more just doing his part for his country. “I’m an American who’s committed to ensuring the safety of our country” Ibarra says. “It goes beyond electronic measures and comes down to the fact that we as American citizens have to be vigilant.”
