Your Easy Guide to ESX 2014

The annual show jointly owned by ESA and CSAA will offer installing security contractors a three-day schedule chockfull of educational programming, networking and a products exhibition

By ·

The seventh Annual Electronic Security Expo (ESX) will return to the Music City Center in Nashville, Tenn., June 24-26. Presented by the Electronic Security Association (ESA) and Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA), the event will afford attendees an array of educational sessions and seminars, networking opportunities, an exhibit floor with nearly 200 participating vendors and service providers, plus nightlife pursuits.

ESX is promoted as the only major, national trade show focused exclusively on the needs of installing electronic security and monitoring companies. Revenue generated by the conference remains within the industry and is used to fund year-round programming, education, legislative and public relations efforts.

The event is home to many of the associations’ respective industry awards programs, national committee meetings, plus other joint endeavors. Among assorted speaking engagements, a keynote address will feature the extreme outdoor exploits of Tom Avery. The London native is one of only 41 people to have reached both the North and South Poles on foot. Avery will share anecdotes of how one individual can make a difference beyond personal limitations to achieve their goals, plus expound on the virtues of teamwork.

In the conference preview that follows, installing security contractors and their teams can learn more specifics about the educational session tracks along with other activities being held throughout the event.

Spotlight on Pragmatism, RMR Growth

Executives from regional and national installing security contractors, vendors, plus a host of other subject matter experts will lead the more than 50 educational sessions that comprise a five-track agenda. The tracks (see sidebar) include curriculum geared for business development and management, central station operations, installation management, recurring monthly revenue (RMR) creation, plus sales and marketing.

As an example of the pragmatic instruction available throughout the curriculum offerings, Security Sales & Integration is sponsoring the Installation & Service Management track. Here, company owners and managers will learn best practices for overseeing activities that increase productivity and quality control, whether it’s installing or servicing alarms, access control, video systems or fire alarms. Included are such session titles such as “Finding the 21st Century Security Technician,” “Project Management 2.0: PMs Tell All” and “How to Reduce Truck Rolls.”

The latter session will be moderated by Dan Budinoff, president of Security Specialists. Budinoff and panelists will discuss options for greatly reducing dispatching trucks for service calls through better use of phone and Web-enabled communications to deploying managed services architecture for the systems dealers install.
