Examining WLAN Edge Capabilities

By Paul Boucherle | January 03, 2013 | Comments (0) | Post a comment

About 11 years ago, my partner and I designed and implemented six IQeye cameras with Cisco Aironet 350 WLAN connectivity. This system was installed in San Diego where a service call involved about a 4,800 miles round trip from Ohio. Not much room for error during implementation or servicing down the road!

This new WLAN edge exponentially changed the possibilities and the rules for anyone who pioneered that edge technology. The edge moved out as far as IEEE 802.11 standards for implementing in the 2.4, 3.6 and 5 GHz frequency bands when the base version of the standard was released in 1997. With advances in both network product design and IP cameras, a WLAN edge is both simple and common place today. So how many of you regularly use the WLAN capabilities of IP camera installations today? Look forward to your comments!
