Smartphones, Tablets Double Workload for IT Departments Managing Edge Devices

By Paul Boucherle | January 09, 2013 | Comments (0) | Post a comment

Managing and supporting edge devices doubled IT department’s workloads when we mix in the smartphone or iPad. The adaption and usage rate of smart mobile devices is staggering and show no signs of slowing down. According to a recent Gartner Group survey, most IT departments follow a conventional 2-4% of revenue formula for IT budgets.

This widely held benchmark that CFOs use to fund IT operations may limit the growth and transformation of companies. A more realistic approach being adapted by about 22% of the CIOs at the Gartner Leadership Conference this spring is the Run-Grow-Transform (RGT) model. This method may be the more appropriate approach for the IT department to stay abreast of the support requirements for the many-to-many trend. What say you faithful reader?
