How Select Security Won the 2017 SAMMY Award for Best Website Design

When it came time to upgrade its website, Lancaster, Pa.-based Select Security decided it wanted to start fresh.

“Rather than try to update what was older technology, we decided that it was best to do a ground-up rebuild, which allowed us to dream big and find something that worked the way we wanted it to,” says Joseph Mitton, director of marketing and communications.

The centerpiece of Select Security’s new website is the interactive cityscape on its homepage.

The  cityscape  features  a  diverse  environment  with  clickable  buildings  that showcase the services offered by Select.

“The concept of our website is based around the fact that our customers represent the variety and diversity of the communities we serve, from the smallest residential to the most complex commercial customers. To help each of those find their space on our website, and give us the opportunity to tailor our message to them, one of the first decisions we made when designing the website was to build the interactive community featured on the home page,” says Mitton.

Hover over a building and it will glow yellow. Click on it and it will demonstrate various security and life-safety scenarios that home and business owners face every day.

For example, clicking on the hospital or office building will bring up Select Security’s access control page. Clicking on a house brings up the home automation page.

Mitton says the new website has also been optimized for lead generation, which has seen a significant uptick since it was rolled out.

“Each visitor is greeted with an offer (which we control and can change as needed) and an information collection form that instantly transfers the lead to our ‘leads team’,” he explains.

“Each page has also been optimized for search engines to find and feature, and calls to action that speak are A/B tested to get the most response.”

Mitton says it took a while to create the new website. “Our search for the right company to build our website took much longer than we thought it would, mostly because we started with a clear vision of what we wanted and didn’t stop searching until we found Philadelphia-based Creative MMS, who had the right talent who shared our vision.” Fortunately, the wait paid off.
