Mission 500 Bestows Corporate Social Responsibility, Humanitarian Awards

MIAMI — Security professionals who have helped communities and individuals in crisis will be honored by Mission 500 during ISC West. Pelco by Schneider Electric will be given the 2011 Mission 500 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award for its charitable efforts. Additionally, Monitronics Director of Dealer Services Barbara Holliday will receive the 2011 Mission 500 Humanitarian Award. The awards ceremony is scheduled for April 7.

The Mission 500 CSR Award honors security industry companies that give to those in need. Through its Community Partnership Program, Pelco employees join in environmental projects such as tree planting and installing solar panels on low-income housing. The company also hosts its annual "Kids Day," which provides more than 800 special education students and teachers a day packed with activities. In 2010, Pelco employees spent more than 20,000 hours supporting these and other projects.

As the 2011 Humanitarian Award winner, Holliday will be honored for her advocacy work at The Turning Point, a rape crisis center serving North Texas. In 2010, Holliday volunteered more than 400 hours in support of rape victims.

“In the United States, 44 percent of the rape victims who report their attacks are under the age of 18. Girls between the ages of 16 and 19 are four times more likely than the general population to become victims of rape or attempted rape,” Holliday tells SSI. “This is a national crisis and there are organizations like The Turning Point all over the country speaking out against violence and abuse at the local level."

Holliday says the industry has a unique opportunity and responsibility to safeguard lives and property by providing the highest level of electronic security to its customers.

“We [as security industry professionals] should all realize that our devices and services are making a difference. If one survivor sleeps better at night, or is able to take a shower in peace because her alarm system is armed and we are monitoring her home, then my entire career has been worth it.”

Holliday is also a sponsor of Women for Women Int'l, which provides financial support to women in war zones and poverty stricken areas. She is also a volunteer judge for the FCCLA STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events. The program challenges high school students living in rural areas to compete in categories such as advocacy, entrepreneurship, leadership and more.

Mission 500 is a non-profit initiative driven by security professionals committed to serving children and communities in need. For more information about the organization, visit www.mission500.org.
