MILWAUKEE — Newly added technology at the Johnson Controls (JCI) monitoring facility, located here, now allows the firm to monitor fire and intrusion panels through IP-based alarm transmissions. Previously, the company used a traditional analog transmission system.
“When a security or fire incident occurs, every second matters,” says Paul Pisarski, manager, remote operations center, Building Efficiency, JCI. “This new technology helps ensure that we are the fastest, most reliable and economic service available.”
The digital signal over IP provides nonstop monitoring, according to the company. It also ensures that transmission failures can be detected within seconds. In contrast, older monitoring technology is only validated every 24 hours. Utilizing the IP service also eliminates the need for analog phone lines, which reduces customer expenses and increases service reliability.
JCI is currently using the IP service to monitor select organizations, including Covidien, a healthcare products provider based in Manfield, Mass. The integration of the monitoring hardware in to the firm’s existing fire system panel was executed seamlessly, says Douglas Queen, senior electrical project manager at Covidien.
“The system operates behind the scenes and there is nothing more from our perspective that needs to be done,” he says.
