NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Electronic Security Association (ESA) honored the recipients of its Morris F. Weinstock Person of the Year Award and Sara E. Jackson Memorial Award during a special banquet Tuesday at ESX in Nashville.

Dan Budinoff, president and owner of Stamford, Conn.-based Security Specialists, received the Weinstock award, which is considered one of the highest honors in the electronic security industry. The accolade recognizes an individual's continued efforts in the trade on behalf of ESA.

Budinoff has been active in the industry and ESA for more than 35 years. He was instrumental in the founding and formation of the National Training School (NTS), serving as an instructor while working to develop the school’s framework.

Budinoff’s leadership in the association was also cited during the award presentation. He has previously served as chair of the education and training committee (1987-2002), vice chair of the NTS committee (1993-2003), and chair of the election committee (2001-2004). Budinoff’s work in committee leadership led to him receiving the Sarah E. Jackson Award in 2004. He is currently on the board of directors for the Security America Risk Retention Group (SARRG) as a Class C representative.

“Dan has certainly paid his dues to our industry,” says John Jennings, a 1991 Weinstock Award recipient. “His work on our behalf has made a true difference in the security industry. I have been honored to have known Dan all of these years and I am certain that those that know him feel exactly the same way.”

Bob McVeigh, vice president and general manager of Norwalk, Conn.-based Security Solutions Inc. in Norwalk, Conn., received the Jackson award, which recognizes outstanding leadership by an ESA committee chairperson. Since 2008, McVeigh has chaired ESA’s Industry Affairs committee.

McVeigh has served in the industry for more than 20 years. In addition to his work with ESA, McVeigh has also volunteered for other industry associations, including the Connecticut Alarm and Systems Integrators Association (CASIA). From 2008 to 2010, he served as president of CASIA, helping the organization earn Chartered Chapter of the Year in 2008.

“ESA is truly fortunate to have Bob McVeigh as a committee chairman, and as one of our most active and influential volunteers,” ESA President Dom D’Ascoli said. “He’s knowledgeable, he’s reliable, he cares about the association and he stands for everything you could ask for from a volunteer at any level. Bob’s willing to give the most of his time and effort, and that makes ESA stronger as a whole.”
