Tyco Integrated Security Purchases Carter Brothers Fire & Life Safety

BOCA RATON, Fla., and ATLANTA — Tyco Integrated Security (TycoIS) has acquired Carter Brothers’ Fire & Life Safety business for an undisclosed amount, the company announced.

With 10 branch offices throughout the United States, Carter Brothers’ Fire & Life Safety division, formerly known as Edwards Service, sells, installs, services and maintains fire alarm systems nationwide. As part of the deal, the business unit will be integrated into TycoIS.

It helped that Carter Brothers had done project installation for Tyco and ADT for more than 10 years. Because of this knowledge, executives at Tyco could see firsthand how the Carter Brothers fire business would benefit their company, according to Brian McDonald, COO, Tyco Installation and Services.

“Our new company is strongly focused on service revenue,” he tells SSI. “The Carter Brothers fire business has a strong service base with more than 2,400 customers. The deal offers a nice fit with our existing business as well as a great opportunity to provide these customers with additional products and services.”

Carter Brothers President John Carter agrees, noting that his business is an excellent strategic fit with TycoIS.

“The business can leverage TycoIS’ scale and resources, such as their Centers of Excellence for installation and service,” he says.

As for the commercial security portion of his company, Carter says he will transfer it to an affiliate of Carter Brothers.
