Honeywell Backs National Safe Schools Project

WASHINGTON

Honeywell Int’l is joining up with the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on a program to promote greater levels of security, safety and health in U.S. schools. Honeywell will serve as NASFM's technology partner on the Safe & Secure Schools project.

“Honeywell is proud to be a part of this project to improve the safety and security of our nation's schools,” says Laura Farnham, vice president of marketing for Honeywell Building Solutions. “Honeywell has a long history of serving the needs of the education market, and we look forward to sharing our expertise in safety and security technologies to help make this initiative successful.”

The project involves a thorough review of risks schools face and developing strategies to deal with them; helping schools prevent and respond to a range of hazards, including security requirements; and determining how to help school districts fund the safety and security enhancements they need.

“The goal of the Safe and Secure Schools project is to help schools decide for themselves which measures they need to take to become truly safer and more secure, in the most cost-effective way possible,” says James Burns, NASFM president and fire administrator for the State of New York. “Schools that successfully deal with issues of life safety, protection of property and continuity of operations can then focus their efforts and resources where they belong — on education.”
