Tyco Fire and Security and MTG Engineering, a company focusing on intelligent guidance and information systems combined with material technologies and techniques, have signed a strategic partnership and exclusive distribution agreement for MILS emergency evacuation assistance systems. Under the terms of this agreement, Tyco companies around the world will sell, service and install MILS solutions.

The MILS system is designed to help guide people to safety during emergencies. It integrates with fire detection, building automation and other systems inside the facility and receives information about the location and nature of emergencies. Using sophisticated control logic, the solution identifies the safest routes of egress and activates a combination of floor- and wall-mounted lighting designed to be highly visible even in smoke-filled areas. The MILS system leads building occupants away from dangerous areas and toward the nearest safe exit. Applications for the solution include commercial buildings, seagoing vessels, offshore installations, aircraft, sporting venues and transportation complexes.

Clive Weston, vice president and general manager of Tyco’s Fire Detection Business Unit says, “The MILS system is an excellent addition to Tyco’s family of industry-leading life-safety solutions. With MILS products integrated with our fire detection systems, we can now provide customers with the earliest possible emergency warning and help lead them away from danger.” He adds, “During a fire it’s very easy to become disoriented. Thickening smoke can obscure standard emergency lighting. The MILS system is designed to be visible even in heavily smoke-filled areas and can help save lives.”
