Home Intruder Impersonates ADT Tech

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Police have charged a 48-year-old man here with attempted breaking and entering with intent to commit felony, while pretending to be an ADT employee.

The victim caught the suspect, Kenneth Spence, trying to force open a door around 6 p.m., Feb. 3, MassLive.com reports. Spence was carrying a clipboard with “ADT” written on it, and told the victim that he needed to come in and check the system. When Spence could not produce valid identification, he fled the scene in a car.

Authorities arrested Spence an hour later and discovered a clipboard inside the vehicle with ADT markings, an ADT sign and an ADT ID from a company employee in San Antonio, Texas. A representative for ADT says Spence has never worked for the firm.
