GERMANTOWN, Md.  Optelecom-NKF Inc., a global provider of IP-video network technology, has been awarded an $800,000 contract for the installation of a video over IP security and surveillance network. The advanced IP-based system, which uses the growingly popular IP technology, will be installed at an undisclosed location within Saudi Arabia.

“Our technology helps protect facilities and, importantly, people from the many threats industry and governments the world over face today,” says Optelecom-NKF President and CEO Edmund Ludwig.

Germantown, Md.-based Optelecom-NKF will provide system design based on its new SIQURA line of products.

“The sensitive nature of providing security and surveillance solutions to customers often requires that we exercise the utmost discretion discussing contract awards. Nevertheless, we look forward to working with STESA to help deliver the best real-time, broadcast-quality security and surveillance network possible,” adds Ludwig.

The system will be designed to provide mission-critical, fault-tolerant video over an IP connection using high-quality MPEG-2 video streaming over Ethernet.

The firm will also use its CS-20 technology in combination with direct on-fiber connectivity with Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), which is based on IEEE 802.1w. This will provide up to 256 MPEG-2 video streams over a rugged, highly resilient network designed to carry video, alarm data and audio.
