Anixter says it will offer seminars for its new smart grid initiative. The “IP Connected Grid: The Future of the Intelligent Power Network” sessions will explore the emerging trends, best practices and concepts behind the national movement toward a smart grid infrastructure.
Building a smart grid is more than just an overhaul of the current communications systems used by utilities today, according to the company.
“Smart grid implementation will impact many utilities’ information, control and operation systems. Utilities also must consider the data storage, physical security and cyber security requirements,” says Anixter’s chief engineer for Electrical and Electronic Wire & Cable division, Eric Bulington.
Attendees will hear a keynote presentation from a nationally recognized industry expert on the smart grid at each event. Following the keynote, guests have the opportunity to attend any or all of the three breakout sessions about substation infrastructures, data centers and perimeter security. Guests can also network with key manufacturer partners and technology experts in a small trade show setting.
The sessions will run in five U.S. cities and are open to anyone interested in learning how the latest products, technologies and standards can affect the infrastructure of the smart grid.
